STILL LIFE WITH SOFT/BASEBALLS

The drawings of these softballs and baseballs began much like the way Van Gogh began his paintings of shoes. Van Gogh found his shoes left out on the streets of Paris. I found these softballs/baseballs (while walking my dog) on the baseball fields of Union, NJ. Union and Paris are very similar in the spring. The subject matter for both artworks is found objects. The “softballs/baseballs” represent a variety of things to me. They are a metaphor for people, and they are also a symbol for hard times. However, they are also hopeful in the sense that after being hit in the field of life you are still there.
